Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know before requesting a TestFlight invitation — what Reckon is, what it costs, how sync works, and how we treat your data. Can't find your question? Email hello@usereckon.com and we'll get back to you within a few business days.
What is Reckon?
Reckon is a fast, calm, native to-do app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. You can use it entirely on its own — no account, no Notion, no sign-up — and your tasks stay on your devices. If you already use Notion, or decide to later, you can connect it and Reckon moves your tasks into a Notion database. Built by Carrotly Pte. Ltd., a private limited company based in Singapore.
Do I need a Notion account?
No. Reckon works as a standalone, local-first to-do app with no account and no Notion required — install it and start capturing tasks in seconds. Notion is optional: connect it whenever you like and your local tasks move across. Local mode is a permanent, first-class way to use Reckon, not a trial.
How much does Reckon cost?
Reckon is free during the closed beta, with no subscription and no monthly fee. If we introduce pricing later it will be a one-time purchase — pay once, never a subscription — and existing testers will get clear advance notice first.
Does Reckon store my tasks?
In local mode your tasks live on your devices and, if you are signed into iCloud, in your own private iCloud account for backup across your Apple devices — not on Reckon's servers. If you connect Notion, your task content lives in your Notion workspace; Reckon's servers only proxy the Notion API and never persist task content.
Does Reckon work offline?
Yes. In local mode the app is fully offline — there is no server involved at all. If you have connected Notion, the app keeps a local cache and queues writes when you are offline, then reconciles them with Notion using an outbox pattern when connectivity returns; conflicts resolve last-write-wins per field.
Does Reckon use AI or train on my data?
No AI is turned on by default, and we never train any AI model on your content — ours or anyone else's. The optional planning helpers you can switch on in Settings run on your device. In local mode nothing leaves your devices except your own iCloud backup; we don't run ads or sell data.
What happens to my tasks if I connect Notion later?
When you connect Notion, Reckon moves your existing local tasks into a Notion database you choose, in a one-way migration. After that Notion is the source of truth and Reckon stays your fast capture front-end — keep adding and completing tasks from the Lock Screen, Apple Watch, or a widget, and changes sync back to Notion.
How does sync between devices work?
On its own, Reckon syncs across your Apple devices through your private iCloud account. If you have connected Notion, a change on one device is sent to Notion via Reckon's rate-limited API proxy; Notion fires a webhook to our backend, which sends an Apple Push silent notification to your other devices to pull the delta. Typical latency is a few seconds.
Which devices does Reckon support?
Reckon runs natively on iPhone (iOS 18+), iPad (iPadOS 18+), Mac (Apple Silicon), and Apple Watch (via the Apple Reminders bridge). It is not available on Android or Windows. There is no web app for managing tasks — the website at usereckon.com is for marketing, OAuth, and legal pages only.
How are my Notion tokens protected?
Only relevant if you connect Notion: your OAuth access and refresh tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored, and the key is held in a secret manager. Tokens are deleted within 60 seconds of disconnecting your workspace or deleting your account. In local mode there are no Notion tokens at all.
Is Reckon affiliated with Notion?
No. Reckon is an independent product built by Carrotly Pte. Ltd. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Notion Labs, Inc. We use Notion's public OAuth and API surface like any other third-party developer.
How do I delete my data?
In local mode, deleting the app removes your on-device tasks (and your iCloud backup is removed too). If you have connected Notion, open the app and go to Settings → Account → Disconnect to erase your OAuth tokens within 60 seconds; your tasks remain in your own Notion workspace. You can also email hello@usereckon.com to request deletion.
Where can I report a bug or request a feature?
Email hello@usereckon.com. We read every message and reply within a few business days. Security issues should be reported with the subject line 'Security disclosure' so they reach our responsible-disclosure channel first.
How can I get TestFlight access?
Email hello@usereckon.com with the subject line 'TestFlight access' and we will send you an invitation. We are letting beta testers in gradually so we can keep response times and reliability high.
